Cougar Hunts
Get ready for one of the most action packed hunts that can be had in the West. Mountain lion hunting is nothing like hunting deer or elk. Morning start very early, meeting up with our skilled houndsmen and heading out to look for fresh tracks.
It can take several hours to find fresh sign, but then the race is on. The dogs are let loose to find and tree the cat. Once the dogs tree a cat, it is up to the houndsman, guides, and hunter to get to the dogs as soon as possible in order to catch up before the cat escapes. At this point, it is up to the crew to decide if the tree'ed cat is of the gender, size and age range that they are looking for in that area. Then it is up to the hunter to make a clean ethical shot. These shots are close, usually within 20 yard, but often at very steep angles.

If suitable sign or desirable lion is not found by 4pm, we usually will end the hunting for that day as we do not want to be hunting these apex predators in the dark.
It is advisable that hunters are in decent physical condition for these hunts as we cover a lot of steep, uneven terrain with haste to catch up to the dogs.
